What is your cancellation/refund policy?

If you cancel prior to 45 days (60 days for holidays or travelers outside the US) I offer a full refund. If you cancel less than 45 days (60 for holidays or travelers outside the US) I offer a full refund if I am able to obtain another renter for your reserved time. I am happy to say at this point I have always been able to find another renter and have returned all deposits. Of course, I can’t guarantee that.

Arrival

Should I let you know my travel plans?

Yes, please! If you have not already done so, please forward your arrival time so we can plan to have your room ready when you arrive.

What information do I need to take with me to use for the immigration form?

On the plane you will receive the immigration form. You will need to fill out both the top and the bottom. Also sign it on the back. If you miss some of this you will be asked to step out of line and go over to the counter to fill it in correctly and then get in the back of the line again. You get the idea – fill it out first so you don’t have to wait in what could be a long line.

What can I expect at the airport?

Airport Arrival

After you collect your luggage you will exit through customs. At this point they may ask you what you are bringing and then ask you to press a button. If you get a green light you may walk on through. A red light means they will search your luggage looking for items that need to have duty paid on them. Most visitors only have acceptable items so this is no problem.

After you walk through the double glass doors you will be inundated with time share sales people offering you everything you could desire in Mexico for just 90 minutes of your time at a timeshare presentation. The sales people are supposed to stand behind the yellow lines painted on the floor but often will stand in front of you to try to get you interested.

All you need to do is smile and say ‘No gracias’ or ‘No thanks’ as they all speak English and proceed on through. It is a bit like running the gauntlet but harmless and part of the Mexican culture.

Exit through the last set of double doors and you are now in the airport. If you have a driver meeting you, look for your name on a sign. If you are hiring a taxi there will be many people there wanting your business. It can be a bit chaotic.

How much is it by Taxi?

If you take a taxi, the easiest way is to tell them to go toward Villa Amor. They all know this small hotel. Then as you make the turn onto the beach road we will be the second house on your left-large wooden doors etc.

A taxi is about $50/USD

Is it possible to get there by local bus?

To take a bus you need to exit the terminal and go over the pedestrian bridge to the other side of the road – out the terminal to your left. Then flag down a bus with Sayulita written in white shoe polish on the front windshield.

The bus is about $50 pesos or $2.50 usd per person. Make sure the bus says Sayulita on the windshield because if it doesn’t it won’t drive into the town but will let you off 3km from town. This isn’t far unless you are lugging a lot of luggage. Then it seems very far.

The bus drops you off just as you enter town. Follow the directions above or there are taxis available to bring you the rest of the way.

Can you recommend a private car service?

One more option is to hire a car service. We have used this service and they are great. For $130 usd they will bring a Suburban van to pick you up and they can handle surf boards and up to 7 people with all your luggage.

They of course can accommodate a couple easily. Their fee includes a stop for groceries if you want and your return trip to the airport at the end of your stay. You can make the arrangements via their website or just email them with your arrival information. They speak English. Be sure you keep your receipt after you pay them.

During Your Visit

Cash or Credit Cards?

Money in Sayulita

Most of Sayulita is a cash economy. Everyone will accept USD and there is an exchange booth that will give you a better rate than the stores or restaurants.

There are 5 ATM machines but they do sometimes go empty and sometimes they will limit withdrawals to $1500 pesos or about $75 usd.

More and more places take a credit card. I would suggest that you bring some cash with you at least to get you through a couple of days. The exchange booth will cash traveler’s checks etc.

Be careful with your credit and debit cards as they have been known to get cloned. Make sure you check your account when you return home to insure that no one has cloned your card. This is not a major problem or I would advise you not to use the machines. When you arrive I can tell you if there have been problems or not and also where to exchange your money.
